Liliane Batcheller, 87 of Ontario passed away Thursday, October 31, 2013. Liliane was born January 18, 1926, in a village near Bordeaux, France to Charles Knox LeBlanc and Irma Lagisquet LeBlanc. The first few years of her life she spent in Bordeaux, France where her father practiced dentistry. When Liliane was a few years old her father'sbrother invited the invited to join him in his practice of dentistry in Perpignan, France. The family lived in Perpignan until shortly before the Germans took over France completely. They evacuated, by boat, from Perpignan a few days before the Germans arrived. They stayed in England a month and departed for Canada shortly before the bombing started. They were received by relatives in Montreal and taken to Sherbrooke. Liliane completed her High School and went to Montreal to train to become a Registered Nurse. She returned to Sherbrooke to work at the Sherbrooke Hospital. In 1963 Liliane applied to the University of Washington Hospital in Seattle, Washington to work. She met Robert Batcheller at the hospital and they were married December 2, 1965. In 1975 Lilianeanswered an ad in her Nursing Journal for nurses to work at the King FaisalSpecialist Hospital in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. A few months later the couple flew to Riyadh to join the staff helping to open a new Referral Hospital and Research Center. Liliane joined the staff of the Cardiac Ward where she worked for more than twenty years and did volunteer Nursing for the remainder of the twentynine years the couple lived there. Twice a year they traveled to Europe and once a year they received tickets to fly back home for a visit. They travelled extensively in Europe. In 2004 they returned to the U.S., settling in Ontario, Oregon, where Robert's family was located. they continued to visit Sherbrooke, one or two times a year, to visit Liliane's family. Liliane continued to be active until six months ago when she had to curtail much of her activity. Memorial services are scheduled for Thursday, November 14, 2013 at 10 am at the St. Alphonsus Medical Center's Hospice Chapel. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.Haren-Wood.com.
