1935 - 2014
Roger W. Denault, 78, of Chicopee and formerly of Indian Orchard, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, March 20, 2014 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Holyoke on August 2, 1935, the son of the late Ovila and Jeanne (Maheu) Denault. Roger graduated from Springfield Trade High School and was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving on the aircraft carrier USS Randolf. He was a splicer and then foreman for Western Massachusetts Electric Company and retired in 1993 after 21 years of service. Roger was a communicant of St. Rose de Lima Church and the former St. George Church, both in Chicopee. He was inducted into the Springfield Public Schools Athletic Hall of Fame, and was a lifelong sports fan of all Boston pro teams. Roger was an avid camper and a member of the Kilowatt Kampers. His number one hobby was attending as many of his grandchildren's sports games and events as possible. He also enjoyed relaxing in his chair watching old movies and westerns. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 51 years, Joyce (Gelinas) Denault; six children, Jeffrey and his wife Tara of Chicopee, Greg and his wife Michelle of South Hadley, Joy Burke and her husband Tim of Palmer, Jeanne O'Donnell and her husband Tom of Southwick, David and his wife Amy of Palmer, and Jennifer Leland and her husband Tim of Brimfield; he also leaves 14 adored grandchildren, Molly, Nolan, Sydney, Shane, Katie, Kieran, Shannon, Elyssa, Declan, Fiona, Roger, Ava, Jack, and Eleanor; two sisters, Simone Gilpatrick and her husband Ron of Chicopee, and Lorraine Charron of Chicopee; as well as many extended family members and cherished friends. At the family's request there will not be any calling hours. In lieu of calling hours, the family would invite you to attend the Liturgy of Christian Burial that will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 25th at noon in St. Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan St., with Rites of Committal and burial in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Fuller Rd., both in Chicopee.
