Biographie Giovanni-John Mastrovito
AMHERST Giovanni (John) Mastrovito, of 18 Kimberly Court, Amherst, died at Springhill on July 4, 2008. Born in Montreal on March 22, 1929, he was the son of Rose DeJulio and Francesco (Frank) Mastrovito. John was raised and educated in Montreal. As a young man, he apprenticed as an electrician. In 1948 he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force to see the world. He trained at Trenton, Ont., and was stationed in Moncton for five years. In 1951, he married the former Hilda Crossman of Ward's Brook, Cumberland Co. John returned to Montreal after his marriage to assist his mother and father, and he and Hilda remained there for two years. He re-enlisted in the Air Force and was stationed in Ottawa, Germany, and northern Canada. He remained in the Air Force for 15 years. As a civilian, he was employed in San Bernadino, Calif. and for a short time in Rwanda. In 1984, he and Hilda, moved to Nova Scotia and ran a gas and convenience store in Port Greville. Due to the ill health of himself and Hilda, they sold the business and moved to Fox River in 1989. In 1992, they moved to Amherst. John was predeceased by his wife, Hilda, in 1999. He was the last surviving member of his family. John appreciated his many friends and acquaintances made in Amherst. Cremation has taken place under the directon of the Furlong-Jones Funeral Home, Amherst (667-8777). There will be no visitation or service at John's request.
