Mother dies, Father And 5 Children Hurt In Downstate Crash STITTVILLE, N. Y. (UP)

A 30-year-old mother was killed and her husband and five children seriously injured when two trucks collided near here yesterday. State Police identified the dead woman as Mrs. Beatrice LaLonde, of Cornwall, Ont. The family, riding in a panel truck, passed two halted cars on the highway and crashed into a gravel truck coming from the opposite direction. One of the children, Richard, 12, had to be pried loose from the wreckage. The father, Gordon LaLonde, 33, storekeeper, and three of the children – Patricia, 11, Dianna, 10, and Richard – were reported in critical condition at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Utica. Two other children, Sheryl, 6, and Phyllis, 11 months old, were described as in serious condition. Police said the family was returning to Canada after visiting relatives in the U.S. The gravel truck, owned by the Town of Marcy, was loaded with more than a ton of gravel.  Its driver was reported unhurt.
