 Josephine Rule Pelkey was born in Ellenburg, New York, the daughter of Paul Rule and Mary F. (Walker) Rule. She married Nelson J. Pelkey around 1876, and they had five children.  Born February 23, 1854 in Longueuil, Quebec, Canada, Nelson's christened name was Narcisse Pelletier, son of Narcisse Pelletier and Marie Gadoua. The Pelletier family came to the United States in the 1860's, settling in the Altona area of Clinton County. The family name was changed to Pelkey.
After marrying, Nelson went to Redford to live. He resided the last 27 years of his life on a farm in the Glen Valley at Jay, New York. He was survived by three sons, George Pelkey, Nelson Pelkey and Sam Pelkey, all of Jay, and one daughter, Mrs. Hattie L. Brochu of Quebec.
